Rit Industrial Design, RIT’s industrial design program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The RIT ID department offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design, a Bachelor of Science degree with an option to minor in Industrial Design, and a Master of Fine Arts degree with an option to minor in Industrial Design.

If you choose to attend RIT, you’ll be joining a network of students who have a long history of success in industrial design. You can also expect to benefit from the expertise of our experienced faculty and staff at every level.

Fit Industrial Design

Fit industrial design is the process of designing products that are optimized for the human body. It is a subset of ergonomics and is about designing for humans, not for machines.

Industrial design is the process of creating a product for mass production. The designer must make sure that their designs meet certain criteria: they have to be functional, accessible and aesthetically pleasing. Fit industrial designers use these same principles but focus on how to accommodate people instead of machines. For example, a fit industrial designer might think about how they can alter an existing object or add features to make it more comfortable or accessible so that it will better suit its user’s needs (or even just make them feel better).

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is a new era of innovation, a major shift in technology that will have a profound impact on our lives. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the convergence of the physical, digital and biological worlds – blurring the boundaries between them.

4 Industrial Revolutions

  • Industrial Revolution: a period from the 18th to the 19th century, when fundamental changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining and transportation had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the times.
  • Second Industrial Revolution: a period from the late 19th century to early 20th century, during which industry underwent radical technological changes and economic growth took place at an unprecedented rate.
  • Third Industrial Revolution: A concept that is used to describe new developments in manufacturing, information technology and other fields that are creating new patterns of economic activity. It is an extension of earlier industrial revolutions (First through Third) which helped shape our modern society by introducing technologies like steam power or mass production techniques such as assembly lines which allowed us to efficiently produce more goods than ever before while lowering costs because they were able to do so with fewer people working in those industries.* Fourth Industrial Revolution: The fourth phase is marked by massive transformations in technology and how we interact with it every day through social media platforms like Facebook or YouTube where you can watch videos about anything under sun without having any idea how much time has passed since last checked your phone …

RIT’s industrial design program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). This means that it meets the standards set by NASAD, which are high. The program itself is hands-on, with students working on projects throughout their time at RIT. There are plenty of resources available in the classroom and online to help students learn how to use CAD software like Solidworks. The Adobe Suite is also used for graphic design work, as well as for communicating ideas with clients or other designers through mockups and prototypes.

Pratt Industrial Design

Pratt Institute is a private institute in New York City. It was founded in 1887 by Charles Pratt, who was an oil magnate. The Institute offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, design, engineering, fine arts, and humanities.

The Pratt Institute’s Department of Industrial Design (DIT) is home to approximately 30 faculty members and 150 students. The school emphasizes industry-based partnerships through its Center for Design Innovation (CDI). DIT facilities include the Product Realization Lab (PRL)

which includes a woodshop for teaching purposes; a digital fabrication lab with tools such as laser cutters and CNC routers; an advanced prototyping lab; CAD workstations; computer-aided design software packages such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD/CAM programs that allow students to model complex parts using 3D modeling software before they are manufactured onsite; carpentry shops equipped with modern hand tools such as table saws or band saws that can be used by students when necessary during their design projects if they find themselves needing to do anything more than just sketching out ideas on paper using pencils only!

The Industrial Designer is a creative problem solver and innovator who can help organizations achieve their goals through design. By creating products, services, environments and communication systems that are useful and desirable, designers influence how people interact with the world around them.

Industrial designers are visual communicators with an acute sense of what makes an experience good or bad. They use this knowledge to create products and spaces that resonate with others on an emotional level – whether through the way they look or feel in your hand, or the way they make you feel when standing inside them.

You’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including digital fabrication labs and a 3D printing studio.

We’re located in a building that houses the 3D printing studio, CAD software lab and industrial design competition. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including digital fabrication labs, graphic design studios and a thermal chamber. Our faculty members are professional designers who bring real world experience into their classrooms. They also work on projects with industry partners so you can apply what you learn directly to your final year projects and capstone exhibition.

As an RIT ID student, you’ll get hands on experience with cutting edge technology like virtual reality headsets that allow students to see their designs come to life before they are built in the real world! RIT’s industrial design program is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the field. Our program has a strong emphasis on design thinking and problem solving, giving you the opportunity to work collaboratively on a variety of projects that cover all aspects of product development. You’ll learn how to work with clients, manufacturers and engineers in order to bring new products into production. At RIT Industrial Design you’ll get hands-on experience using computer aided design programs like Autodesk AutoCAD and SolidWorks; 3D printing technology; laser cutting; rapid prototyping facilities; as well as traditional 2D drawing techniques such as hand sketching or illustration.

The combination of theory with practice allows students to gain insight into how theories are applied within real world situations by exploring how various elements influence each other within complex systems such as manufacturing or marketing. Students will also explore sustainability issues such as energy consumption and waste management through case studies from industry leaders such as Nike Inc., Toyota Motor Corp., Steelcase Inc., GE Lighting Division (now LumaSense) among others.*

If you’ve ever designed a room in your house or built something from scratch (like a new shelf), you’ve done some industrial design work. But ID is not limited to physical objects; it also applies to experiences such as websites or mobile apps. There are many different ways to define industrial design broadly:

  • “Industrial design” is often defined as “the art of making things look good”—but there’s much more to it than that.
  • The American Society of Industrial Designers’ definition includes elements of engineering, architecture & fine arts; they consider their members “designers who create new forms & functions.”

The program is accredited.

An accredited program is important for the student, employer, school and the state.

Accreditation is also important in international communities.

Classes are hands-on.

Our classes are hands-on. You learn by doing, by making things and experimenting with your ideas. We want you to make mistakes, because we know that these mistakes will help to guide your future designs. By the end of the course, you’ll have created a portfolio of projects that showcase your talent as an Industrial Designer and give you confidence in applying for jobs in the field.

Along with learning from our professors and instructors (all former ID students), you will also be encouraged to use resources outside of class:

  • Use our network of over 70 mentors who are professionals in their respective fields.
  • Visit exhibits at museums or galleries around town—these can inspire new ideas for products or materials!

There are 3D printers.

You’ll be learning the ins and outs of 3D printing in the Industrial Design program. The printer lab is located in the basement of the main building and has a variety of printers that you can use, including:

  • MakerBot Replicator 2
  • MakerBot Replicator 2X
  • Ultimaker Original+
